Offer holder day and SOC gala.

On Wednesday the 9th of May, it was a very busy, and, special day at the University College in Groningen. First of all, it was offer holder day. All the prospective students that hold an offer were invited to this event in order to get more acquainted with UCG and each other. Secondly, it was the day of the annual SOC gala.

This day was especially busy for me as I had to help to organize the offer holder day as an introweek committee member and because I am part of the SOC, which is Caerus’s Social Committee. Therefore, I had to help with both the gala and offer holder day.

As galas are in the evening, my day started with the offer holder day. Fortunately, the weather was really nice, so everyone was in a good mood because of the summer vibes. The first thing I had to do was lunching with the prospective students. We were all just sitting outside enjoying our sandwiches and the lovely weather, while in the meantime we started to get to know each other. For me, it was really interesting to see all the new first years and it made me think about my own offer holder day last year.

After lunch, we spend roughly an hour on speed dating. This way, our prospective students had the opportunity to ask questions and meet a few current students and UCG teachers.

After speed dating, we started with an amazing activity called The Crazy 55. In this activity, the offer holders had to complete 55 crazy quests for points. We also play this game every year with Caerus and, as the name already suggests, it is literally crazy! Amongst the quests, you could find insane challenges such as: Creating a traffic jam and organizing a pillow fight in a store.

Lastly, UCG organized drinks for all the offer holders and the volunteers. Together with a few other students and offer holders, we chatted for about an hour until the offer holder day, unfortunately, came to an end.

Nevertheless, now it was time for the SOC gala! This is one of the biggest Caerus events of the year and I felt proud of being one of the organizers. I had to be there half an hour earlier as we still had to set up a few things. After a stressful 30 minutes, we managed to decorate the basement of the Newscafe in Groningen.

Now it was only a matter of time until the first guests arrived. It was really fun to see everyone dressed up in their beautiful gala clothing. In the end, around hundred people joined the gala and we had one of the best nights of our life!
